St. Regis -- 1968 -- Monticello, MS

Let's Play -- "Write the Caption" -- Please post your best to my FB page or in the Comment Section below.

Opened in 1968, the St. Regis paper plant in Lawrence County was, at the time, the largest of its kind in the world.  It provided countless jobs and a boost to the local economy at a pivotal time in not only the Piney Woods', but our country's history.  Most of the company's executives choose to live in nearby Brookhaven.

I happened upon these photos and was amazed to read about the man who took them, Erich Hartmann, who at age 16 escaped Nazi Germany in 1938 and took up residence in Albany, NY, with his family.

The above photos are the copyrighted work of Erich Hartmann/Magnum Photos -- and are used with written permission from Magnum Photos.
